Tree cutting permit Boucherville

Tree cutting permit Boucherville

Before you welcome a new tree on your property, find out what species are permitted by the City. To prevent damage, some trees must be planted at least 15 metres from a main building, highway right-of-way, sewer or water main, water supply well or sewage treatment plant. This is the case for laurel willows, weeping willows, white poplars, cottonwoods, cottonwoods, Lombardy poplars, aspen poplars, large-toothed poplars, balsam poplars, silver maples, hard maples and American elms. When planting the tree on your property, make sure it will not harm buildings, electrical wires or pipes buried in the ground.

Caring for a diseased or insect-infested tree

Examine your trees regularly to quickly identify any anomalies. If you see any signs of fungus, pests or disease, contact a certified Boucherville Pro Pruning arborist. He or she will be able to establish an accurate diagnosis and an appropriate treatment plan. If, after making sure that you are well informed, you choose to apply a treatment on your own, first make sure that it complies with the pesticide by-law.

Pruning a tree

Pruning is the pruning of branches from a tree for a specific purpose. It may involve removing weak, diseased or dead branches, as well as those that threaten electrical wires or buildings. This intervention also serves to lighten the branch, to make it lighter, to promote better air circulation and to create sunny areas on the property. It is important to know that a cut of more than 25% of the twig represents a shock to the tree, which diminishes its vitality and can even cause its premature death. This is why the City of Boucherville prohibits the practice of this type of drastic cutting. Any branch cutting has an impact on the health and development of the tree. Pruning must therefore be reserved for preventive or corrective interventions, and must be carefully planned and executed. It is recommended that a certified pruner be used.

Cutting down a tree

Felling a tree is not an insignificant gesture. The tree being a living and precious being, its felling should be considered as a last resort. When it is necessary and the tree is located in the setback or front yard, a Certificate of Authorization must be obtained from the City of Boucherville. An urban forestry engineer will evaluate your application and a fee will be charged. Please note that special regulations apply to properties located in protected areas, including the Du Boisé and Vieux-Boucherville sectors, as well as along a watercourse. Any tree felling that does not respect this regulation and this procedure is subject to a fine.
